Some dealerships, chain auto shops, and some independent shops will try to sell unnecessary services. If your engine is running smooth without a CEL illuminated it is probably unnecessary and just additional profit for them.

Some years ago I got an estimate for brake work from a local (St. Louis) shop. There was a per-wheel line item for blowing dust out of the brakes with compressed air. I went somewhere else.
