The driver’s seat appears to be binding against the plastic trim piece resulting in the seat beginning to crack/split apart. The rubber surrounding the door is splitting. What can be done before it gets worse? ---

I don’t suppose it’s still under the bumper-to-bumper warranty? Is there any way to bend the trim piece out of the way? A shop that does car upholstery might be able to fix the seat. ---

The door seal can be helped with some silicone based lubricant. Are your seats leather or leatherette? If so you should apply some leather conditioning to them. A picture would help to see how the trim and the fabric interact. Maybe look on VW forums for answers too.
