Did you just buy this vehicle, or have you owned it for awhile and heard this whining sound only recently? When you reach cruising speed, does the noise stop?

Unfortunately it could be just about anything with a bearing in it. Your vehicle had a 60 mo./60k powertrain warranty so I’d take it to a Honda dealer and start there. A good mechanic with a stethoscope should be able to pinpoint the problem.

According to the CRV forum many have complained about similar noises only to be told it’s normal.

Go to your Honda dealer and ask to drive a different one, even if it’s not exactly the same year, to see if “they all do that.” If it’s true you’ll just have to get used to it, if not you’ll have ammunition.
