# 2015 Smart ForTwo transmission

I test drove a 2015 a smart-for-two today and the automatic transmission felt like it had a little person inside shifting a manual transmission. Is this normal?

Yes, that is normal and a fairly apt description of what is happening!. This car has an automatic transmission known as a dual-clutch type. It is essentially a manual transmission shifted with automatic controls.

Thanks, I know it was weird driving it, it was a good enough price, just the I have never driven anything like it.

I also considered buying a Smart car because in this area the used ones are really cheap. But did not because it requires premium fuel, is now a discontinued brand in the US so the support network might be lacking.
