My daughter bought a used 2014 Subaru Forester 2.5i Limited in 2017. It is an automatic transmission but the way it sounds makes me think it is not shifting up to a higher gear when accelerating and driving at higher speeds. The rpm’s sit at 1.5-2 typically unless accelerating. It does not seem to idle high. Not sure if this is just the way the car is or if there is something going on with it. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

That vehicle has a continuously variable transmission (CVT), it doesn’t shift like a conventional transmission. If it were a conventional automatic transmission that engine speed is rather low for not shifting into high gear.

Be sure to check the oil in that Subaru weekly. [Here’s why](https://www.cartalk.com/blogs/car-talk-car-complaints/used-subarus%E2%80%93-buy-one-not-one). Good to also note that there is an extended warranty on both the engine and transmissions of that year, make, and model for defects. Mark your calendar for 100K miles when both expire.
