The shop can bundle the diagnosis cost into the repair quote or break it out separately. Either way, you’re paying for that service as it’s a necessary part of doing repairs…Sometimes, shop’s will credit the diagnostic fee if you have them do the work. They charge up front because oftentimes unscrupulous customers get the repair quote after diagnosis and then either go elsewhere for the repair or do it themselves.
