MY van Town & Country van is a 2013 with 81,000± miles. A year ago I started feeling a clunking noise (after the car had been warmed up and running for a few miles) when I shift
from Drive to reverse and and reverse to Drive and the transmission completely fell out. I had it replaced at a cost of $3000. Less than 11 months later the identical thing happened again. Transmission mechanic cannot figure out what the problem is. HELP!!

Just to clarify… I assume you’re not saying the transmission actually physically fell out of the vehicle? I think you’re using hyperbole to say the transmission failed…because if something as large and heavy as the transmission had physically dropped from the vehicle 2x now, I’d be worried about some kind of frame/unibody rusting.

Can you provide more specifics?

Does this replaced transmission have a warranty such as 12 months or 12000 miles. If it was used then it may have been ready to fail anyway .

+1
Additionally, this would could indicate catastrophic failure of the trans mounts on two occasions, and I think that is… unlikely.

Unless the thing is completely rusted out and first mechanic make it hang in there with a ductape 🙂

But seriously, YES, sounds quite unlikely

I think you really need to clarify the bit about the transmission falling out of the vehicle. I find it hard to believe that the car stopped at Point A and the transmission was lying in the roadway 200 yards back at Point B. And to have this happen twice? Not likely.

There must be some unusual stuff happening inside that engine compartment.

Im no rocket surgeon but it sounds to me like what is wrong with your car is the lack of transmission on account of it falling out of your car. You may want to find a new mechanic if he cant figure that out.

Would you like to explain how the transmission fell out of this vehicle twice ? The person who asked this question 6 years ago never did.

Has to be Google Translate, never heard of a rocket surgeon…

And it would be very hard for the transmission on the OP’s vehicle to just fall out on the ground… The clunk is something breaking internal… Those has 2 large gears on the side that one of the very large nuts will back off and then the gear will walk off the shaft causing noise and stopping the vehicle from moving on it’s own… Could also be the ring and pinion or a sun shell or clutch pack drum…

Not Google translate . It is a variation of the silly phrase that some people use when they want say that sonething is easy or simple to fix . Instead of saying it is not Rocket Science they say ’ It is not Rocket Surgery’.

Well at least you could still listen to the radio.

… and as Billy Joel sang, “If you can’t drive with a broken back, at least you can polish the fenders”.

In any event, I agree that this thread is pointless. The OP was a “one and done” 5 years ago, and I tend to think that her claims of two transmissions falling out were bogus.
