I could read up on Mercedes camshaft issues. Is it the cam, followers, phasers, timing chains? Tensioners or something else? I know it’s probably expensive. ---

Yeah, get at least one more opinion. The sales price on a car like yours is a lot higher than $6000, and repairing it is probably worth it in the long run.
