In what aspects of the handling?
Curvesā¦ . .
I like to feel the āweightā of the steering in the curves, thatās why I run factory size tires with OE pressures.
With wider tires and exaggerated pressures, The steering feels to me like Iām on ice! Remember, I stopped racing several years ago, so super wide tires are wasted on me.
And I will respect your personal view on the matter, I unlike you and a lot of people, enjoy driving fast, but I still run the same 35 psi no matter the size (225/75, 235/70 or 255/70) in the old truck with 0 negative effects, just positive handling, the same reason track cars run wide tire, for grip in corners and launches (and braking too i guess)ā¦ might hurt the fuel mileage a bit, but I never really cared much about fuel mileage on the truck or my fun carā¦
I didnāt remember, nonetheless, did you insist everyone at the track inflate their tires to factory specifications?
The factory tire size for my 1998 Ram was P235/75R16, the former owner had installed wheels from a 2002 Ram and P265/75R17 tires.
It now has P265/70R17 tires and has had different size tires over the years, usually replacing two at a time so not always a matching set. With no load in the bed, 2/3 of the trucks weight is on the front axle. Hardly a good balance for street racing so a perfect set of matching tires is not a great concern. I bought that truck 16 years ago and have never purchased tires, they have all been free.
Did I anywhere mention a track?
Like I said, I stopped racing and started drivingā¦
Sure, stay with narrower tires, just like Indy and F1 does.
The difference between winter and regular tire will have a MUCH larger impact on handling than the difference of one tire size larger for this van. Like I said, my only concern is load rating.
Chris, if you want to drive a 64 Chevy Impala with 7.15x14 2 ply tires, I wonāt stop you.
Better than putting gādonk 20" wheels on that Impala.
Open āGran Torinoā to the lawyer scene, where the lawyer reads Kowalskiās(Eastwood) will regarding who gets the aforementioned Gran Torino. In the will he admonishes āNo redneck flames or g*y spoilersā
His character and I agree on keeping cars OE!
There is no way you can say that my fun car would look better with stock 14" wheels and D78ās on it over the custom cheap 15" wheels now on itā¦
F**** looks.
The OE manufacturer engineered and designed the thing. Why mess with because someone doesnāt like the way it ālooksā?
Thereās no clearance for tire rub if you go over a railroad grade crossing, or raised structures in roadway. The ENGINEERS took all that into consideration when choosing a wheel and tire size to fit in the wheel wells of the car.
As in vehicle mfg. option? Thatās a different story. They tested it on the car, they know what variations work, compared to weekend warriors slapping anything that rolls on it.
You hold up fictitious characters as experts?
Dude, I drove this thing daily to work during covid as well as other times up to 20+ miles away, Nashville roads suck for the most part, I crossed at least 2 RxR crossings that would make your Accord feel like it was falling apart, you donāt think I took everything into consideration?? The only time it rubs is turning into my driveway, and guess what, I can change the front ride height in a few minutes if I wanted toā¦ My exhaust and or headers will hit anything before the oil/trans pans ever willā¦
And yes, when it comes to the engine performance, I am wayyyy smarter than they were in the ignition and carburetor design of these vehiclesā¦ I have done a few things that make it safer, more durable, way more reliable and WAYYY faster then the engineers ever designed the car forā¦ At one point I could hit 120 mph in 2nd gear and watch the hood start to wave in 3rd, NO stock F body Mopar ever could come close to thatā¦ Now 80 in 2nd is max and 3rd redlines about 120 mph, and yes, I can redline the engine in high (3rd) gearā¦
The transmission that the engineers designed, I have corrected their screw ups, I can even check the trans fluid in park, much safer than any stock A904/998/999 or A727 ever was because you have to check them in neutral because it does not fill the torque converter in park, ALL mine do now, plus I have eliminated the 2-3 overlap/bind up as well as other thingsā¦ I have made the transmission almost bullet prof up to about 600HPā¦ The rear end is now almost bullet prof, the driveshaft is rated between 600-700HPā¦ I custom built a pinion snubber so the car has NO wheel hop, it is smooth as silk at any speed, including 120 mph on a smooth road, no driveline vibrations at allā¦
So donāt tell ME about how good the engineers designed my car, I know better, you donāt have a clue, and I have owned it since 1987, so plenty of experience with it, plus I have owned 2 others as wellā¦ It aināt the car, itās the builder and that is me that made it better!!!
NO, No, No, No!!!
What everyone missed is that this vehicle came with LT225/75R16 Load Range E tires inflated to 55 psi front/80 rear.
235/75R16ās only come in P type - max useful pressure 35 psi. There isnāt enough load carrying capacity!
Hopefully the OP will go to a tire shop that will notice this and do this right.
Chris, you of all people should have picked this up!!
Not everyoneā¦
Yes, Texaes, you kind of caught it. But my reply had more emphasis if I omiited the exception.
However, Iāll remember and give to credit when I can!
