I have a 2011 Chevy Malibu with a piece of wood or some kind of dark debris stuck in my gas tank. I have tried to fish it out with long nose pliers but it is crumbling into pieces. How do I get it out?

The filler neck can be removed from the gas tank and cleaned out. If you break it up too much, then the tank may have to be dropped. It kinda resembles a cork. Is it possible someone jammed a cork down the fill hole?
