I have a leaking center oil pressure switch. My local Subaru Dealership’s Service Department is recommending I replace the timing belt at the same time since since, although they haven’t seen the belt, the car is 9 years old (with 43,700 miles). A local repair shop specializing in Subarus highly recommends I replace the water pump as well. The Dealership however emphatically states I should not replace the water pump since replacing the pump often causes more problems than it fixes.
Your thoughts?

You are due for a timing belt - it is time of mileage, whichever comes first. I’d change the water pump and have the Subie specialist do the work… and warranty the work.
