you have to give us a little more to make any kind of guess as to what the problem is.  
Was the sound coming from the dash area, under the hood.  
Was it a back fire??? Popcorn popper near by???

I know this has been said by others but why in the world are so many of these 'Ask Someone ’ questions so vague and hard to understand.
