The no-start/shutting off might be due to a faulty crankshaft position sensor.

[https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/chrysler,2008,pt+cruiser,2.4l+l4,1441786,ignition,crankshaft+position+sensor,7196](https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/chrysler,2008,pt+cruiser,2.4l+l4,1441786,ignition,crankshaft+position+sensor,7196)

One of the things the crank sensor does is, it informs the computer whether or not the engine is rotating.

If the computer loses the signal from this sensor, the computer thinks the engine isn’t rotating. So the computer see’s no reason to operate the ignition and fuel systems. So the engine doesn’t start, or shuts off as the vehicle is being driven.

A faulty crankshaft position sensor doesn’t always turn on the Check Engine light.
