Today my check engine light came on and the code is P0712. When I drove off from the parts store, the check engine light suddenly went off. Whay should I do at this point? What are the most likely problems/solutions. Thanks to all for any help…

(1) check your tranny fluid level per the owner’s manual instructions. Fill appropriately with ONLY the proper T-fluid from the Toyota dealer.
(2) Get to a trusted shop pronto. This might be the first sign of an problem that could become serious if left unattended, like perhaps a leaking tranny cooling line.

For the record:
P0712 - Transmission Fluid Temperature (TFT) Sensor Circuit Low Input
