When I started my 05 Tundra I heard a pop like a backfire. As I drove home I couldn’t get above 40mpf and it was worse going up any inclines. My mechanics said the cats were clogged and replace them with generic models as this truck has 353k on it. Power problem seems to be returning like it wont get to the right gear…This V8 has always been strong so what should we look for next?

Any codes showing up? I’m thinking a valve timing problem.
