I think a big problem is advertising. When a company . . . such as AAMCO . . . is pushing its services, they’re being anything but objective
Of course they claim what they have to offer is the best
Naturally, AAMCO will want to sell services which are easy, quick, and very profitable. And if the customer feels good about it, so much the better
Advertising in general should be taken with a grain of salt
It really is necessary to do some research and inform yourself. Read consumer reports, check out a book on the subject from the library. Talk to neighbors, friends, etc.
I agree with changing all the fluids and getting new tires, but do NOT flush any fluids except the brake fluid. Flush the brake fluid and just drain and refill all the others. Do not flush the cooling system either, just drain and refill.
Unlike engine oil, short trips are LESS harmful to ATF than long trips. The transmission fluid doesn’t get as hot so it doesn’t deteriorate as much. In this case, a simple drain and refill would be enough, pan removal not necessary. That can be put off until the 60k service. Be sure that only the Toyota ATF is used, get it from the dealer. If you use an independent mechanic, buy the ATF yourself unless the indy gets it from the dealer for you. Do not allow Dexron III with an additive to be used.
