I have a 2005 Sedona Kia that doesn’t want to shift into overdrive in slams into gear really hard and the transmission. Fluid bubble’s hot how long can I drive it this way or am I doing major damage? Also can it be fixed by udating the software on the vehicles brain?

Yes, you are doing damage. Unlikely any software fix. No telling how long before the car will refuse to shift at all but it won’t be long. Take it into a local independent mechanics shop and have them take a look at it. It likley won’t be inexpensive.
