My wife has a problem with the check engine light coming on and staying on. The dealer has replaced the fuel pump twice (which they say is the problem) but it keeps happening. Has anyone else had the problem with their Nissan?

What was the diagnostic trouble code?

This would show up as P0xxx or P1xxx trouble code.

First off, you are not alone. There’s many a fuel pump that’s been replaced that didn’t fix a check engine light. Same with O2 sensors.

And it is also entirely possible for there to be two replacement fuel pumps that are both bad out of the box. Or fail within a few days of driving.

The dealership shop if anybody on earth should have the tools, diagnostic equipment, and expertise to figure out what’s wrong and fix it. If the dealership can’t do it, who can? But it may take some time before they get a set of parts installed in the which all work according to specs.

Suggest to insist on an OEM fuel pump if they decide to replace it again.

And if you think the shop isn’t competent to fix it, try taking it to another dealership or an inde shop instead.

The advice above to post the diagnostic codes here is a good place to start.

We need the exact fault code to help with your problem. The dirty little secret with CEL codes is that it may or may not indicate the actual malfunction. In my opinion…it’s “not” most of the time. The mechanic troubleshooting the problem needs to be experienced and not just throw parts at the problem in hopes that it will go away.
