Are you driving on a frozen lake ? Seriously if the trans acts like its slipping then that is what it doing.

And at 224,000 miles that’s not all that unusual. I would stop driving this vehicle, take it to a reputable independent transmission shop and get a repair/replacement estimate. Usually with a vehicle that age the repair is not worth the cost.

The shop may be able to locate a good used transmission at a reasonable price, should that be necessary.

If the transmission has never been serviced regularly then you’re lucky it made 224k miles.

Rebuilt transmissions are available for about $1200 from local parts stores in my area. Then there is the removal and re-install. Say $1000 or so. If the truck is in good shape I’d buy rebuilt and not used. The engine should run to 350,000 miles if you keep the oil changed.
