2004 toyota tundra. runs but when I shift into gear, it dies. What is wrong? ---

The problem might be with Idle Air Control valve. ![BA1591026-1](https://global.discourse-cdn.com/cartalk/original/3X/9/c/9c263fedc843cbe7a090cecf9fb24bd797d5da76.jpeg) The next time you start the truck, before you shift into gear, firmly step on the brake pedal and slightly step on the gas to add another 200 RPM’s, and then shift into gear. If doing this prevents the engine from stalling, it points to a problem with the IAC valve. Tester ---

no. check engine light is not on and was not on prior to the engine stopping when shifting into gear. ---

Did you look at the Idle Air Control valve that Tester mentioned in an earlier post. What were the results with the simple test he suggested? If your IAC is bad, I’ve had luck taking them apart and cleaning them, though you may want to just replace it. ---

How would that be adjusted on a MPFI system without a tuner doing a tune on it?? Besides, if the OP was looking for help he/she would have answered more than one question… We can’t help them if they don’t help us…
