drops down to 2nd gear . Have to stop and turn off engine and restart then it goes ok again for a while. ---

Your " RE4F04B" transmission has some known problems with the \* No 3rd after 4-2 or 3-2 kickdown - Leaky, worn, bad design direct clutch (3rd) inner seal… Don’t think that is your issue but not much to go on until we have more info… ---

Might be limp mode. Is the check engine light on? Are there any active diagnostic codes in computer memory?
