2001 Dodge Ram 1500 truck 5.9L with a K&N air filter. While plowing in winter or in a heavy rain, engine will begin to cut out and will stall. Leaving it inoperable, and will not restart. Related to heavy water or snow. Solution: get out and disconnect the battery. Count to 3, reconnect and it starts like a champ and goes until another water related event hits it. What’s my problem? Do I have a MAP sensor bad? I could not find a MAF sensor on the air intake. I put a water proof sleeve on the K&N filter to prevent water in the intake, but I’m not convinced that’s the problem.

Has it stalled after you put the sleeve on? And doesn’t putting that sleeve on negate the supposed benefits of a performance intake?

Is the check engine light on? If it is, go have the codes pulled up and post back. If not, you might want to buy a cheap code reader to see if one is getting set when the truck stalls. Disconnecting the battery seems to be clearing something you really want to know.

Your distributor is back near the firewall, and if the hood seal is missing or damaged, water can get on it.
