# 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 - Won't keep running

randomly my truck will not stay started, the rpms goes to zero when i take foot off accelerator. i have to use accelerator and brake when slowing down or stopping to keep from dying. Other times truck runs fine. What can be causing this?

A little device known as an idle air control valve adjusts idle speed so the engine won’t die. I expect that has failed. The part is cheap and easy to repair.

Is your check engine light on? Has it been on longer than this problem has been around?
