OK, this Subabru car is 17 yrs old. But I’ve had it for the past 10 yrs, I take good care of it, drive it gently, and it only has 140,000 miles. Now it needs a transmission, front axle, and other smaller stuff to the tune of $1,500. I feel like if I buy a newer used car I could end up spending the same in maintenance and repairs.

Automatic or manual?

Why does it need a transmission? The price you quoted doesn’t sound like enough for a new transmission, let alone the smaller stuff.

If $1,500 is all it takes to put the car right, do it. You can’t buy another car for $1,500.

But why does it need a transmission at only 140K miles?
