Fuel Pump needs to be replaced, and my mechanic says the part is $480, because its an assembly, and he is willing to charge me $200 labor. Is this a fair price? I am new to the auto mantinence field.

The price seems about right, I paid nearly $700 to have a fuel pump replaced on a 91 Taurus in 1997. The price was ~$450-500 for a Motorcraft pump. Is the mechanic’s quote for an OEM or a aftermarket pump assembly. If it’s OEM the price sounds about right, an aftermarket pump should be cheaper.

Thanks. He said it was coming from Jeep, so I assume its an OEM.
