My brake light is on. I have deduced that the problem is excessive play in the parking brake pedal, resulting in poor contact with the switch that controls the light. The parking brake isn’t activated and there is no problem with letting it hang, but it’s very annoying to have a red light in your face all the time. How can I fix this? Is there some sort of adjustment for the pedal tension? If I pull the pedal all the way up, the light goes off, but then the pedal drops down again and on goes the light.

Isn’t there a return spring on the pedal? Maybe the spring broke.

What happens if you disconnect the wiring to the switch?

unplug the electrical connector on the back of the switch. If the light still stays on, take a small piece of wire and jumper across the terminals.

this will take about 5 minutes and cost you about 10 cents.

All you have to do is adjust the parking brake to put tension on it.

The parking brake cable may be stuck or may need adjustment.
