Not sure what I should do about my car. I need a new transmission.

 I have a few options:

From the Dealer : a new transmission costs $3500

From Aamco: a rebuilt transmission cost $1800

From Ebay: a used transmission costs $450 (never know)

 A used car: costs about $10K - $12K

Boyfriend says go for the Ebay… fix the car up… sell it (maybe get $2 K ) and use that on a down for a used car.

I’m just on the fence… I like the car, but it is getting older.

That said, it is a SUPER well maintained car. I do everything I’m supposed to do and keep it running well.

I’d put $2k-3K in it if I thought I’d get another 20K miles out of it.

 I just drive local… Maybe 700 miles a month.

Rebuild the transmission at an independent transmission shop.

Well you could do that, and you might be buying a car with all the same problems that your current car has. Unless you like making car payments, I suggest a local independent transmission shop. Maybe your local mechanic can recommend one. Other wise you will just end up making a lifetime of car payments.
