I have a 1991 Escort with a leaking gas tank. Because it is a plastic tank, I’ve been told it can’t be repaired. The shop I frequent said they can’t find another tank. Does anyone know of another tank that will fit?

How Thoroughly Was The Leak Diagnosed? Did The Shop Find The Exact Spot That’s Leaking?

I think some of these Escorts have metal fuel lines above the tank that rust through. I might be wrong on this too, but I think you can get a look at them under the rear seat. There may be an access panel that comes off after the seat gets removed. It’s simple enough to have a look.

The shop very well could be correct, but did they show you the leak or explain how they determined that a tank replacement was your only option?

Ford sold a bunch of these things. Have they checked any salvage yards?
