How long has the check engine light been on? Have the codes been read? What are they?

If you aren’t going to fix this yourself, I,d suggest having it towed to a good independent mechanic. Expect to pay for his diagnosis. Also expect that there are electronic components that have failed and need replacement on a 28 year old car. Good Luck
