# 1989 Honda Civic Brake Light Will Not Turn Off

I have a 1989 Honda Civic SI. All of a sudden the rear brake lights will not go off. No warning just happened immediately.  
  
 Besides electrical, what else could be the problem?

The brake light switch on the brake pedal. That would be my first suspect. It’s rare for a switch to go bad by shorting out, but not unheard of. It could just be jammed in some way.

will the light go out if you actually lift up the pedal? if so the spring on the pedal is weak. you can adjust it, or take it to a mech for adjustment.

if the pedal is ok, then the switch may be at fault.
