Car only operates on a slope or going down a hill and usually only when i put the transmission on N. Occasionally my car will operate in reverse also when the transmission is on N but usually only when there is a upward slope in the road ahead. Sometime i have difficulty varying the speed when i press the gas. Other than that the car is super quiet and excellent on fuel.

And? It appears you have a problem with your shift linkage and/or motor/transmission mounts. Engine may shift position more on slopes, unusual!
Agreed, those old Taurus’ were quiet with nice ride qualities. But the transmissions were sensitive to the 30-50,000 mile fluid changes.
