My 05 wrangler is now on its third go around to replace a faulty ignition switch - I believe the mechanical part. The first time, under warranty, the dealer replaced the steering column. About a year later, same symptoms, (insert and turn key normally - no starter crank), but this time no warranty. Local garage replaced steering col again ($600). Now, maybe 3 years later, same problem. Different mechanic has located part from a dismantler (rod actuator, now separated from steering col) which will fix problem, I’m sure, and at somewhat lower cost.

Question: has anyone seen this as a recurring or common problem with this vehicle? Is there an inexpensive DIY fix?

 Thanks!
