I have a for escape 04 with an intermittent battery light… Nothing special occurred before or after except a 5 yr old battery replacement. But it is still blinking on then after a time it goes off. Should i do the dead short test? The folks at AutoZone tested the charging system and said it is charging properly.

Did you clean the cable clamps when you put the new battery in? If so, check the other ends of the cables. There might be corrosion at either end.
