I think it’s more selfishness than hate.
“Hate” has become the new “you don’t agree with me”. A lot of people I know who like to brand the people who don’t agree with them as “haters” are actually consumed with hate themselves.
“No one beholds hypocrisy so keenly as another hypocrite”, I have always said.
