Spare tires are disappearing for 2 reasons:

They cost a lot. The manufacturer can reduce the price by up to $350 on a CTS by leaving it out. The compressor is not nearly that expensive. This also gives them another option for increasing profit margin. A couple hundred bucks doesn’t sound like much compared to a $40,000 car, but it adds up.

It saves weight, and this translates into better fuel economy.
