This hard shift problem is most likely an electronic control problem, your transmission should NOT need a rebuild. I don’t recall how much the PCM cost, it was a couple years ago, but I can guarantee you it was less than $1500. Have the shop check out the sensors (like transman suggested) and the PCM, I’m pretty sure that’s where the problem is.
