Mysterious Malady

My friend has a 1993 Chevrolet Corvette. After about 50-60 miles of driving, it mysteriously cuts off. After a rest of 15 -20 minutes it will start again but will cut off again after another 30-40 miles. What is up?

I had a similar problem with a 91 Taurus. It would run for an hour or so then quit, 1/2 hour (or so) later it started right up. It was the fuel pump, the mechanic had to hook a scanner to it and let it run to diagnose it properly.

His time is up for the quarters he put in ?

I’d start wondering about a temperature sensative ignition module. But how to prove that ? Let’s wait for others to chime in.

Crankshaft position sensor failure.

I agree with ken green. I think you need to replace your ignition control module and make sure to apply the heat sink gel under the module when you install it.

It’s running out of gas? It is a Vette, after all…

Seriously, a heat sensitive ignition module is an excellent possibility, as it a CPS.
The forts thing your friend needs to do is determine whether he’s losing spark of fuel. That’s where the diagnosis needs to begin.
