2007 Chevrolet Impala

I have a 2007 Impala. My power steering went out when I went to the hospital to pick up my husband after he had surgery. The place I had it towed to said they had to replace the Rack N Pinion for $990. They charged $780 because they said the pump didn’t need replaced. Last week the same thing happened and I just got it back my invoice says pls out of fluid due to leak from rack replace steering gear. Several mechanics have told me they have never heard of replacing a rack n pinion in a 2007 car. Has anyone else had this problem with their Impala.

The car is 7 years old by now . . . it’s not unheard of for things to start leaking

I’ve replaced leaking racks on cars that were far younger than yours

Apparently other people are having problems with this rack leaking:

So don’t feel too bad, you’re not alone.

I had a 2007 Impala that required an entire replacement of the power steering pump and rack at 4 years and 9 months and only 32,000 miles.
