2005 Subaru Timing Belt Job

Howdy - -

I’m about to change my timing belt, and I want to make sure that I have all the right stuff on hand.

Does anyone know what size socket to use on the main crank pulley?

Also, I plan on replacing the front cam shaft and crank shaft oil seals. Does anyone know what size deep socket to use to drive the replacement seals home?

Thanks.

Main crank pulley: Try a 22mm socket but it might be different depending on the engine. I don’t know.

As far as seals are concerned, buy the seals and then size them against the sockets.

Sorry, when you have a complete tool set you don’t really commit socket sizes to memory.

You didn’t mention how many miles on your car. While you’re in there, change the belt tensioner / idler. The bearings go bad and cause a lot of damage when they do.
The oil pump or coolant pump (I forget which one) is also driven by the timing belt and should be replaced while you have it apart.
This is a pay me now or pay me a lot more later deal.

Removing the bolt on the crank pulley can be tricky. B/c the engine turns when you try to remove it. If you have problems, yes it can be removed, post back here for ideas.
