P144a

I own a Ford escape 2010. the engine light stays on continously. The car wont pass inspection (required in MA). I just took the car to an Auto service place and they came up with the code P144A. Ford dealership refuses to provide me with a interpetation of that code # unless I bring it in and they can do a diagnostic themselves…Any idea what that particular code is in english. (It has to do with the engine).

Thank you.

No shop of any integrity will try to repair a car based on another shop’s codes. Any good shop will do their own code reading and diagnosis.

There’s some error in the code you were given. Codes don’t end with alpha characters.

There’s a problem with the fill neck to the gas tank and is found under Technical Service Bulletin 11-11-48.

Depending on the manufacturing date of your vehicle it could be covered under warranty for 5 years/50,000 miles.

Some codes do have an alpha character, MB–or at least they do on some late-model Fords.

The problem has to do with the evaporative emissions system.

I guess I stand corrected…again.
Thanks guys. I’ve learned something today.
Apologies to the OP.

Don’t feel so bad, MB!
I’ve been wrong before, and I’ll be wrong again, as is the nature of being human.

I try to learn at least one new thing every day, and on many days, this forum is the source of my learning.

Me too! On both statements!

I like to think that if I wasn’t wrong so often I wouldn’t learn so much.

I like to think it’s analogous to when I dropped something and caught it before it hit the ground. A fellow that was there complimented me on my “nice catch”. I pointed out that I get more practice than more coordinated people.
