How do you set the timing on a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

I recently messed up the timing on my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Is there not a was to reset the timing so that it will start. Everything I have read says you can’t set the timing on that model.

How did you manage to mess up the timing on your cherokee? The timing isn’t adjustable so i dont understand how it could have been messed with. I think the only way you are going to be able to do that is to get to the timing belt (or chain depending on what it has) and reset the position of it according to the marks on the gears.

The 96 Jeep is a distributorless system???

It has a distributor, you just can’t use the old method of rotating it to adjust the timing (says so in the factory service manual). There is a key slot to prevent it. The spark control computer handles the timing. Unless you somehow remove the distributor and reinstall it wrong, the static timing should be right on.
