Gas Pedal not working

All of sudden the gas pedal stop working on my car. I tried to top the fluids (oil and Transmission) but to no avail. Any idea waht I can do

What do you mean “stopped working” Do you push the pedal and engine speed does not increase? Could be that the cable or linkage came off or broke.

Your car probably has an electronic throttle. A sensor tells the engine how much you press the gas pedal. This needs a knowledgeable mechanic to fix it.

You have to be more specific than, “the gas pedal stop working”.

Were either the oil level or the trans fluid level low?
Did you add those fluids even if the level was normal?
Can you start the engine?
If it starts, can you “rev” the engine?
If it starts, and if you put it in gear, does the car move?
What is the model year of the car?
What is the odometer mileage?
Has the car been maintained exactly in accordance with the MB maintanance schedule?

Car starts fine, will drive ok but does not pick up speed. What’s the name of the cable or linkage you spoke off?

1997 Benz E320
Trans fluid was fine, add a little engine oil
Car starts and drives fine, just doesn’t pick up speed
Can push Gas Pedal to floor while in parking and doesn’t run the engine
Car had regular maintenance and mileage is about 170K

I too believe it is an electronic throttle, MB has used them for some time now. Perhaps there is a fuse, check the owner’s manual to see if there is a fuse listed and its location. Otherwise, call your MB dealer.

“Car starts and drives fine, just doesn’t pick up speed
Can push Gas Pedal to floor while in parking and doesn’t run the engine”

This is still not very clear.

You tell us that the car starts and drives fine, but doesn’t pick up speed.
How fast can you get the car to go?

You tell us that when you push the gas pedal to the floor while parked, the engine does not run.
If that is the case, then how could you get the engine to start?

Can you clarify what sounds like contradictory statements?
This is very confusing.

how can the car drive fine if the engine won’t rev up? It won’t drive well if it only idles. It sounds like you have an electric throttle, as has already been said.

Are there any engine malfunction lights showing?
It sounds like it’s in the “Limp Home” mode.

Have you had any diagnostic codes read yet?

Here, try this throttle reset procedure for MB cars:

  1. Get in your car, it doesn’t matter if you close the door or not.

  2. Turn the key to the on (not start) position, the position just before the starter turns over.

  3. Press the gas pedal to the floor with the key in the “on” position.

  4. Hold the pedal to the floor for five seconds, then turn the key back to the “off” position (don’t remove the key), then release the gas pedal.

  5. Wait 2 mins. for a full alignment.

  6. Drive the car as you always do.
