I have been told that my back brakes need replacing and the place suggested it would need to include replacing the drums. They wanted about $400 for new drums and pads and such. I have never in all the years I have owned a car had to ever have anything but pads replaced on any of my cars brakes. I have had the car checked a number of times and no one till this last place who was also replacing my front wheel baring said anything about needing new drums and such. If the drums were that bad would you not hear something or feel something while braking?

My car: 2002 Kia Sedona Mini van/149,000 miles on it, I got it with 135,000 on it and have not had any break work done to this point because I was told it wasn't needed.

I have a 2004 Monte Carlo SS with the FE3 (I believe) suspension package. I am chasing a bounce in the car that can be felt at low speed but goes mostly away at 60 + MPH. This is not a consistent bounce, it is worse at lower speeds. I cannot remember how long this has been going on. The car has 86K miles and I keep this car maintained. The wheel bearings were replaced at 60K miles. I replaced the axles last week because there was movement in the shaft I could visibly see. I replaced the lower engine mounts and the did a common modification of flipping the radiator support mounts to tighten up the motor in the cradle. The dog bone mounts seem very tight. The tires are new because the old ones were worn past my comfort level. They have around 3000 miles on them. They were installed using the GSP9700 balancer. The pass criteria for this shop was 26lbs of force measurement on the machine. One tire was 14 lbs, the other 3 measured very near the limit all over 20 lbs. The factory struts are still in place and very stiff.

Finally my question, can this 20 + lbs of force cause a bounce in my seat at speeds as low as 20 MPH due to the stiff suspension on this SS package car?

My '06 Pontiac Vibe sometimes has one headlight out. When it's on as a daytime light, or on normally, the right headlight is not working. As a high-beam, it comes back on. It did this for a few days, then came back to normal after I hit a hard bump. Now it's back out again. It sure sounds like a loose wire to me, but I can't find it by jiggling wires behind the light assembly. Any suggestions?

My 2005 Nissan Frontier is in the shop now for a couple thousand dollar repair to the transmission and radiator. Evidently there are alot of us Nissan truck owners with damaged transmissions because the transmission coolers inside the radiator rupture and there is a co-mingling of transmission fluid and coolant which damages the transmission an/or other drive-train components. It's obviously a design flaw and Nissan refuses to "man-up" to the problem and the harm it causes to families in this tough economy. I've loved the truck until now.

My 2002 Tacoma has recently been experiencing transmission trouble. Between 45-60 MPH at various revs, the truck begins to shudder and shake. The severity depends on how aggressively I accelerate. After several weeks of this, the check engine light came on. It has remained on since, except when it flashes if I accelerate too quickly. Throughout the shuddering, the revs remain constant. By roughly 60-70 mph, the truck runs smoothly again. In a (possibly) unrelated note, the parking brake indicator is lit almost constantly, particularly in wet or cold weather, although the brake is not engaged.

Hello out there...I'm a new member and would like to ask a question...

I bought a 2011 Toyota Sienna for my wife which she loves. We live in upstate NY which has plenty of snow, not counting this past winter. My friend gave me a set of snow tires mounted on rims already that look like the bolt patterns fit, but the tire size is a little small. Would there be any issues, other than the speedometer and odometer being off by a little if I use them?

OEM tire is 235/60/17 T rated 100 load index

Winter tire is 225/55/17 V rated 101 load index (nice Michelin PA3 Alpins with 8-9/32nds tread)

I know that my speedometer will run faster than I am really going and that my odometer will read a little higher than real, but am just worried about safety issues mainly will using a smaller overall diameter tire.

Thanks.

Well took my van to a local place for an oil change this past Sat. I picked it because I got a coupon from AAA (I am a member) and they were AAA approved. Well took them about an hour to complete and got home and let the van sit for a few hours to let the oil drain back down and went out to do a check to make sure they put in the right amount and such like I do after every time I get an oil change. Well I open my hood and siting on my fuse box is a cap to something. I don't recognize the cap from my van, I check all the things on my van that requires a cap and they are all there. So I have what appears to be a rather new cap to something. The place I had the work done was closed by then so this morning I sent them an email letting them know I have an extra cap. I will be interested to see if they know what it is to as I am almost sure it's not from my van. Not sure if I will be going back there after this...

Now the car has already been thrugh our shop, but they did not see any problems. The tires are like new, and otherwise it runs great !!!

Any ideas??
